Why These Colors?

Red, Orange, Green, and Yellow

Many personality assessments look at so many different aspects of behavior that it takes someone who has psychological training to fully interpret the findings. In contrast, the Personality Color Indicator (PCI) Silhouette™ is a reflective evaluation designed to help people better understand what they can do to have a balanced, healthy and well-rounded personality using four primary colors.

The PCI Silhouette™ evaluation optimizes the number of variables to be measured. It uses statements versus word associations or questions. Dr. Carol Ritberger’s research found that statements are more effective than emotion-based word associations because they encourage the brain to respond in a clear, unobstructed manner, revealing the individual’s inherent traits without emotional bias.

The colors selected to stand for the personality types are representative of the totality of who we are. Color typology can be drawn from a number of roots, one of which is the ancient Sanskrit system of chakras. Over 19 years of research by Dr. Ritberger, found a consistent correlation between the psychological and physiological effect the colors of the lower chakras red, orange, yellow and green have on the body.

The four-color formula present in the PCI Silhouette™ appraisal is a synthesis of all of the different aspects of who we are energetically, emotionally, mentally and physically. Carl Jung called these distinct modes of mental functioning thinking, feeling, sensation and intuition. Jung determined a person has the ability to use all four modes of functioning, however, there is a tendency not to develop all four equally well.

Some personality assessments use numbers, letters or words that tend to “label” people and create limitations in a person’s mind as to how they perceive themselves and the individuals around them. Color is a universal language. A plant that is “green” in Asia for example, can be just as “green” in the United States, Europe and elsewhere. Primary colors on the color wheel are the same primary colors everywhere. Chakra colors are universally accepted colors intended to define the four-color traits of the Personality Color Indicator system.
